Arbol de la vida candlestick
A candlestick is a very popular decorative element in a Mexican home. Candlesticks, like other ceramic products with functional and decorative functions, are most often decorated with colors referring to the culture of the Mayans, Aztecs and later colonial times, i.e. shades of blue, green, yellow, black and red.
Candlesticks can be made in completely simple cylindrical shapes or made in more complex forms. Figurines of birds, people and floral details are a common decorative element of candlesticks.
Mixtec culture
The presented handicrafts have their roots in the Mixtec culture, which is known from pre-colonial times. The specific method of producing Mixtec ceramics is characterized by the artist's great attention to detail, deep color saturation and precise, hand-made decorations. The name of the products comes from the region where it is produced, i.e. La Puerta de la Mixteca. Craftsmen producing Mixtec ceramic decorative elements usually come from one family - Castillo. Each candlestick is marked with a signature that guarantees that the product was made using artisan methods by a Mexican artist. This ceramic is known around the world as one of the greatest manifestations of Mexican popular art.
