Hand-painted Talavera tiles are made using traditional techniques (history of Talavera ceramics) in Dolores Hidalgo in the Guanajuato region of Mexico. Talavera tiles, often also called Majolica, or simply from the Spanish Azulejos, are very popular not only in Mexico but also worldwide due to their unique character, design and warm colors of the south. Manual painting of the tiles and the characteristics of the technique itself make the individual colours on the tiles not homogeneous, the edges are not always in perfect shape, and thanks to that the tiles look rustic and original. Each tile is unique!

The tiles are wear-resistant and even with deeper scratches the pattern is still visible as the individual colours are contained in the glazing. Each tile is first covered with a base colour and then each colour of the pattern is applied separately. After firing, the tiles obtain their final colouring, as well as their extraordinary resistance.
