Blanco Mexicano Ecru – Tiles from Mexico

Hand-painted Talavera tiles in cornflower blue are produced using the traditional technique (history of Talavera ceramics) in the town of Dolores Hidalgo in the Guanajuato region of Mexico.
Talavera tiles, often also called Majolica or simply Azulejos from Spanish, are extremely popular not only in Mexico but also around the world due to their unique character. The hand-painting of the tiles and the characteristics of the technique result in colors that are not completely uniform, edges that are not always perfectly shaped, giving the tiles a rustic and original appearance. Each tile is unique, with shades of ultramarine.

The tiles are abrasion-resistant, and even with deeper scratches the pattern remains visible, since the colors are embedded in the glaze. Each tile is first coated with a base color, and then each color of the design is applied separately. After firing, the tiles acquire their final color scheme as well as remarkable durability.
