Figure of a Motorcycle Rider on a Harley
Unique figurine of a motorcyclist on Harley motorbike, made in Talavera style. The figurine depicts a motorcyclist, which refers to the Catrina character, so popular in Mexico. Catrina is a symbol of transience and death. Mexicans believe that they will meet the dead in the next life, and that death is just a part of it. The figure of a motorcyclist on a Cruiser or Harley style motorbike are very popular symbols in Mexico. Motorcyclists are a specific group of people who follow their own rules, which are not always in line with the norms of the rest of society. Motorcyclists stand for freedom and living according to their own rules. The figure of the motorcyclist has been coloured in white and black, indicating a huge contrast and drawing attention to the possibility of the coexistence of good and evil. The thick natural pigment and the glaze coating of the figure allowed the artist to achieve a 3D-like effect. The figurine is placed on a pedestal, which allows for stable placement in a chosen location.
Ceramics made in the Talavera style
This mode of production was imported to Mexico from Spain, specifically from the city of Talavera de la Reina in the 15th century. The colonizers showed the Mexican artisans a specific way of producing ceramics, called Talavera by the world community. The products made in this way, due to their uniqueness and precision, have become valued and sought after objects by collectors all over the world.
