Primera Dama tile comes from the brilliant La Catrina collection, which is the essence of Mexican culture and tradition. It is inspired by the female skeleton motif, which was popularized by painter Diego Rivera in the early 20th century. The artist initially depicted only a female skeleton in dress, hat and jewelry as a wealthy lady. However, death applies to all living beings, so our collection features not only human skeletons, while performing everyday activities like cooking, playing, shopping, but also the skeleton of a cat, dog, or horse.
In Mexico the motif of death is particularly treated. First of all, it is considered important, but as it is not easy, it is presented in a humorous and light-hearted way. In this culture, death is seen as an integral part of life. By not denying it, after all, one can see the fragility of our existence and enjoy the moment more.
Ceramic relief tiles require great skill and dexterity from the artisan. The thick paint used to paint the patterns solidifies to form reliefs. Production of tiles with relief is not quick or easy, but the effect is spectacular. Hand-painted tiles with a structured pattern play with light to create a 3D effect. Backlighting emphasizes the reliefs, lush colors and rich patterns.
Mexican tiles with relief can fill the entire surface, or they can be used as decorative elements accompanying plain and single-colored tiles. Mexican artists do their best to make each tile shine with colors, keeping its traditional character.
Very solid workmanship of Mexican tiles guarantees that you will be able to enjoy them for decades.
