In the golden age of copper forging, the town of Santa Clara del Cobre, famous for its bowl production, was almost entirely dependent on copper crafts. However, the decreasing demand for copper objects for everyday use and for hand forged artistic decorations over the centuries, meant that by the 20th century the number of craftsmen, or rather artists, producing them using traditional methods was significantly reduced.

Thanks to the efforts of local artists organising numerous exhibitions in the middle of the last century, hand-forged copper has once again gained a large following, and objects made using traditional methods have once again started to flow out of the town of Santa Clara del Cobre.
