Toucan figurine
Toucan is a synonym of joy, happiness and cheerfulness in the Mexican culture. The huge beak of the bird is hollow inside, which allows it to make loud bass sounds. The toucan figurine is crafted by a craftsman in the style characteristic of Talavera. The bird's beak has been decorated with yellow, and the very end of the beak, in a contrasting manner, with black. The bird's body was decorated with ornaments referring to floral patterns, characteristic of the Talavera style. The artist colored the figurine in shades of yellow, orange, green, blue, red and black. The dyes with which the figure was painted have a dense structure, which allows for an effect similar to 3D. The bird was placed on a branch by a craftsman, which adds realism to the situation.
On the back of the figurine there is an element that makes it easier to hang it on a golden chain, which is attached to the decoration. This allows for a very realistic effect of a toucan flight in the sky.
Talavera ceramics
The method of producing ceramics in this style was brought to Mexico with the Spanish colonisers of the 15th century. Characteristic of this style are the floral decoration of the pottery and the colours referring to nature, yellow, red, blue, green and black. The production methods of this style are passed from father to son in the artisan workshops and remain unchanged for centuries. Talavera ceramics are popular with enthusiasts all over the world. This kind of faience is produced in very small series or as a single piece, and the prices of these products can reach very high values.
